Hey all! Thanks to so many of you all for taking me up on the advance reader copy offer earlier on in the month (and those of you who caught typos are especially blessed ;)).
I just wanted to let everyone know that Year of the Nurse: A Covid-19 Pandemic Memoir is officially out now! It’s about why and how working bedside with covid patients gave me PTSD and made me suicidal, and how I became ‘whole’ again — here’s a universal link that goes to all platforms and right now, the only way to get it in print is to hit up Amazon (sorry about that, I’m working on it!)
This whole ride’s been a little wild — I just finished working on it on July 8th, and here we are on the 20th!
At the moment, I am a one woman show. I self-published this book because it needed to get out there, now, while the Delta variant is still killing unvaccinated people, and crushing the souls of the nurses who’re having to STILL watch people die who didn’t have to. Nurses need to feel seen to survive, and if there’s any flipping way my book can change stubborn unvaxed minds, I couldn’t hazard wait for traditional publishing (which takes months/years) to catch up with me.
But that means that it’s just me banging my drum about this book.
So if you’ve got some time or sympathy left in you, if this past year hasn’t drained you dry, please check it out yourself, and consider forwarding this email to some people who want or need to know what being bedside last year was like — or who enjoy some righteous and cathartic anger. (Preferably, they don’t mind a lot of cursing. I yell at Republicans a lot and call Fox News out for murdering Americans.)
You all are my hometeam, so I feel safe bragging a little here — pre-reader reviews are only just starting to pop up on Amazon, but a lot of y’all who read it reached out to me, saying that this is a profound and meaningful book. (Which wasn’t exactly my intention, and on the whole I’d rather not have spent most of 2020 wanting to die, but hey. Lemons into lemonade, I guess.)
So if you’re on the fence, don’t be. I’m solid and I’m true.
Here’s a tweet you can easily share, and a Facebook post you can share too.
Link to all platforms and link to Amazon for ebook/print one more time.
You all saw maybe 15-20% of the book here. Trust me, there’s a whole lot more…

All cued up on my Kindle!
Found your book recently, & found your newsletter just now. Thank you for writing it. I’m in New Zealand & we have been pretty protected from COVID until relatively recently while at the same time we have had misinformation & anti vax rhetoric all around d us. It’s hard to deal with. I can’t imagine nursing in the midst of all that. Kudos to you for coming through it.
