Hey peeps!
Some cool/interesting/poignant stuff caught my eye in the past 24 hrs and I wanted to share:
First off — check this tweet, it’s AMAZING. I recommend sound on!
Lemme play by play this echocardiogram (ultrasound, essentially) for you:
This heart’s underlying rhythm is vfib — ventricular fibrilation. That’s why the edges of heart as a whole are quivering. The muscle cells of the heart that are usually so coordinated and able to pulse in an appropriate time — your heart beat! — aren’t managing it. They’re just wobbling there, like jello, firing willy-nilly, and not pushing out any blood.
Which is why they’re doing CPR! That punching motion you’re seeing from the bottom left of the screen is someone pounding on this person’s chest in order to imitate the flow the heart should be having. I have never seen CPR from the INSIDE like this before, it’s great.
Now here’s why the sound on is sweet — around 15 seconds in you can hear them charging the defibrillator. That’s that upwards-video-game-like sonic sweep there. They stop CPR (which, um, they coulda kept pumping while it was charging, but hey) let it charge, and at 20 seconds you SEE THE HEART GET PUNCHED WITH ELECTRICITY and then right afterwards?
BOOM.
Starts beating normally again.
I could watch that shit ALL DAY. The Bon Jovi is just a bonus! lol.
Other things/thoughts:
This asshat — you don’t actually have to watch it, I’m just putting it in there for ‘these people are really that dumb’ posterity:
Sure Bob. Three hundred thousand deaths. ‘Phony’.
Which is fucking ironic because somehow this other legislator:
Is worried he’s gonna die from covid and wants ‘thoughts and prayers’.
Which means he might end up looking like this gentleman soon, who did not deserve to get sick (and subsequently die) at all:
I have a lot of strong feelings that I still haven’t sifted through (and might never, honestly) in regards to being forced to wish people who’re in charge of our country and purposefully pointing it towards a rocky shore REPEATEDLY, ill.
This moral dilemma that’s my life right now is a strange and hellish place. I know the nurse I want to be — and at work, I would care for them with so much dignity. But as a fellow human being who is TIRED OF THIS SHIT…yeah.
I try not to think about it too often? But when someone who is in the Trump circle gets covid…I buy a lot of plants in celebration. (So, like, I’m helping them help the small business economy, really! heh.)
That’s an essay for another time, perhaps. Have a great rest of your weekend!
— Cassie
Apparently if you are a politician you still get to have your possible intubation planned in advance while you can still post on fb about it. Unlike the peasantry, who at the moment are likely to end up proned either on bipap or max hi flow plus 15L nrb on a tele floor, until even that isn't enough and the rapid response team has to decide to intubate and give them the one icu bed they've been saving.
